Srinagar, Oct 28 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said that major road widening works on the Khanyar–Nowhatta–Nowshera (KZP) Road, Syed Meerak Shah Road and Boulevard stretch are pending primarily due to funding constraints and land acquisition issues, even as fresh tenders have been floated for the long-delayed Boulevard project. In a written reply to a question by MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar, the Public Works (R&B) Department, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the acquisition process for the KZP Road has been completed for certain stretches at Khanyar, Nowhatta, and Nowshera. However, the government said that the project remains held up for want of funds and completion of legal and land-related formalities. “About 100 kanals of land and 500 shops are required for rehabilitation of affected families and shopkeepers,” the department informed. Regarding the Syed Meerak Shah Road, the government said that the stretch from Dalgate to Zakura has already been acquired and widened. “Limited portions at Nowpora, Khayam and Habbak–Zakura remain pending owing to funding, land, and law-related issues,” the reply stated. On the Boulevard Road widening and four-laning project from Nehru Park to Kralsangri, sanctioned under the Central Road Fund (CRF 2014–15) at a cost of Rs 33.77 crore, the department said execution was delayed due to rehabilitation requirements, non-issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the LCMA and pending environmental clearances. It further said following the directions of the Deputy Chief Minister, fresh tenders worth Rs 19.97 crore have been issued on October 3, 2025, and work will begin once the tender process is finalized—(KNO)
